Any questions? Here’s your chance.
Many of you may have noticed that I’m not very active on Twitter and am not even on Facebook. I tend to be a bit shy when it comes to reaching out to people, but I respond very favorably when they reach out to me.
I am too busy writing to tweet all day, unless I have something important to say. And I don’t consider the fact that I am, for example, eating a tuna salad for lunch as newsworthy enough for a tweet. I also don’t subscribe to the mentality of many authors who send out “Buy my Book” tweets all day long. It has never moved me to buy a book, and I am a reader too, after all.
There are a few exceptions to this. I have downloaded books from authors who take the trouble to talk to their readers, instead of just blasting them with promotional tweets. I enjoy communicating with readers, which is why I have created this page.
So to get to my point, this is me, reaching out. I am online all day, every day, and if you use the comments section below, I guarantee that I will respond. This can also be a great forum for readers to discuss my books if they so choose, and I will join the discussion if there are any questions.
So pleased to have found your books, Just finished Fire and Ice. Looking forward to the third installment.

Hi Anita, I know how you feel. I’m in withdrawal too. I have focused on the Crossfire series for so long that I feel quite odd now that it’s finished. I agree that it feels like perhaps there should be a fourth one, and I have some half-formed ideas about that. Even with Driftwood, it feels like Karl and Nancy has more to say, which could result in a full-length novel. But I can’t make any promises. I’m a slow writer (I envy writers who churn out a novel every month) so it could be six months before I bring out something new. Thank you for taking the Crossfire journey with me.

Hi Anita, I had to sign a exclusivity contract with Amazon for Driftwood to participate in a promotion they are running. On the 21 May the exclusivity expires, after which I will immediately release it on Smashwords who will distribute to B & N. So probably by middle of June it will be on Nook.
If you have a laptop or desktop computer, you can download the Kindle for PC app which will allow you to download and read Driftwood from Amazon. If you read my post Driftwood Free on Kindle, you will see the link to download the software.
I am following you on Twitter now. Just a few tips, (I speak from experience) you will attract more followers if you add a picture of yourself and write a small bio. If it’s just the default picture you will find most people won’t follow back. Have a wonderful weekend. 😉

Hi Ashley,
The third book, Hearts on Fire, will be releasing on Saturday evening on Amazon and Smashwords. As a South African, I cannot publish directly to the Itunes store, so I go through Smashwords. It’s a bit of a process, because Smashwords takes two weeks to approve the book for distribution to sites like Apple and Barnes & Noble. Normally after approval it takes another week to ship so in my estimation, it will be about a month before Hearts on Fire will appear on Blio, Itunes and B&N. Luckily, Smashwords offers all these formats, so if you don’t want to wait, it is possible to download from them direct.
Driftwood will probably only appear on the Itunes store around June, because I had to sign a three month exclusivity with Amazon in order to take advantage of a promotion. The contract period ends May 21, so I’ll publish it on Smashwords the day after, and then the same process applies. But before May 21, I can still give Driftwood away for two days for free. I will announce those dates on this blog, so keep an eye out. Then you can use your Kindle app to download and read it for free.
Thank you for commenting, I am excited that so many people are enjoying the series so far.

Just finished the trilogy yesterday, and Driftwood this evening. Loved each of them, and hope that you will continue Karl & Nancy’s story in a future novel. I don’t tweet, ever. I am on FB and that is how I “discovered” you. One of the other authors I “like” does a weekly “what are you reading” post and I have found some really wonderful writers that way.

Hi Nancy. Yes, I also think tweeting is overrated. Personally, I think there are more writers than readers on Twitter. I agree that word of mouth is solid gold. No amount of advertising could make up for one reader saying to another: “You should try this book. I couldn’t put it down.”
I love it that you enjoyed the Crossfire Trilogy, and the good news is that a full length novel (as yet unnamed) about Karl and Nancy is in the pipeline. In fact, that is the project I’m working on now. I’m not a fast writer, but I hope to release it by the end of the year.

Hi Stella,
The next Crossfire novel, which will feature Nancy and Karl as main characters, should be out by this time next year. I have done the outlines for a further two books in the series, but I am busy with another project at the moment, which I will publish around December.
I am thrilled that you’ve enjoyed the Crossfire series so far, and hope you’ll look out for my new book in December. The working title at this point is Knight: Origins.

Hi Renee, I’m so glad you enjoyed Driftwood. As I said to Stella earlier, I will have a full length sequel out by June next year.
I don’t know if you have tried the Crossfire Trilogy, which starts around three years after Driftwood. Although the trilogy tells Stefan and Marcelle’s story, Karl also features prominently, especially in book two and three.
The first book, Crossfire, is free at Smashwords until the end of July. The coupon code is SSWIN.
Thanks so much for your interest.

Yes I finished them in a few days. I loved them as well. I wish we could continue to follow their marriage and possibly see them with children. Maybe they’ll be seen in the Karl and nancy series? Love your work. 🙂

Hi Renee, welcome back. I think that reading Driftwood first perhaps gave you a unique insight into the person Karl really is, and not the face he presents to the world. And his relationship with Nancy, though he was bitter about it, probably primed him for the emotional support he needed to provide to Marcelle three years later. I’m happy that you enjoyed the Crossfire Trilogy, and yes, we haven’t seen the last of Stefan and Marcelle. They will feature in the Karl and Nancy series also, though not as the main characters. Thanks again for your feedback and compliments. 🙂

I hope that you’ll give Aidan and Lily (the main characters) a chance to entertain you. Thanks for your interest. 😀

Thanks. Yes i will definatley leave a great review for the crossfire series because it was soooo good. Will the book Lily’s Reprieve be in third person?x

Thank you, Rachel. Lily’s Reprieve is in third person. I prefer to read books written in third person and I write in third person. I find first person too limiting. The book can be classified as paranormal/fantasy romance, but I promise not a fairy, goblin, demon, angel, vampire or werewolf in sight. I wanted to try something a little different from Crossfire, but at the core of Lily’s Reprieve is still two lovers trying to overcome tremendous obstacles. So I guess it is a bit like Crossfire after all. LOL.

Fab! I only like to read books in third person too. I like to read about what both the two main characters or more think. Plus i read every genre out there except horror so thats good too.x

Hi Dawn,
I’m very happy to hear you enjoyed the Crossfire Trilogy. Thank you for the wonderful compliments. The good news is that I am busy working on another book in the Crossfire Series. I don’t know if you have read Driftwood, which is a short story, and a prequel to the Crossfire Series. It takes place about two years before Stefan and Marcelle meet. Karl is the main character in the story, and it tells of his bittersweet love affair with a woman called Nancy Kendall, who he met in Mozambique. This fourth book that I am busy with now, will involve Karl and Nancy, and Stefan and Marcelle.
I have just recently published a new book, called Lily’s Reprieve, which is book one of the Blackstone Trilogy. It is a paranormal fantasy romance, but it is set in the real world, so it’s not like Lord of the Rings, or something like that. More like Twilight, I guess, and by that I mean it is set in the real world, not a fantasy landscape. But no vampires or werewolves or anything like that. I like to think that I have created a totally different hero, never before seen in a book. If you are interested, I have made sure that a 40% sample is available at Smashwords, which is double the sample you get at Amazon. Please feel free to check out the sample, you might like it.
Thanks for commenting, and happy reading. 🙂

Hi Lynda, I’m not an expert on Amazon’s software, but what you can try is to go into the ‘manage your kindle’ section of your account. If Hearts on Fire already appears there, you can use the options there to redeliver the book to your Kindle. If HoF doesn’t appear there, but you are sure that the transaction has gone through, I think your only option will be to contact Amazon’s technical department. I hope this helps.
I’m glad you enjoyed the first two books and hope you will be able to download the third one.

Hi Melanie. Aidan’s Redemption will definitely be out at Christmas. I was busy writing the fourth Crossfire book in May 2012 when my older brother died in a motorcycle accident.
To say the least, it knocked all the creativity right out of me. I struggled for six weeks to continue the Crossfire book before I shelved it. I started Lily’s Reprieve instead, and am now busy with Aidan’s Redemption. I think it helped me because these Blackstone Trilogy books are fantasy, not reality.
However, time has passed, and I’m eager to continue with the Crossfire book. As soon as I’ve published AR I plan to continue with Crossfire: Somali Sunrise. I anticipate that it will be available August 2014.
Thank you for your interest and for commenting. Have a wonderful day.

Niki, I just finished Lily’s Reprieve and I want more. This can’t be all there is between Lily and Aidan ( my grandson’s name was Aedyn, he passed away in 2009 from Leukemia, he was only 4 years old, so this story was even more memorable to me). Thank you and I can’t wait for the next book.

Hi Teresa. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your grandson had a beautiful name, and I love the way you spell it. Makes it very special. I chose Aidan’s name after careful research. Because he was born in the 10th century, he needed a name that existed then already. After a lot of searches on name sites on the internet, I chose Aidan, though of course in the tenth century it would have been spelled more like Aedyn than Aidan. I know it has become a very popular name in books these days, but I want you to know that I chose it with care, and not just because it’s popular at the moment.
The next book in the Blackstone Trilogy is called Aidan’s Redemption, and it will be available at Christmas, so you don’t have long to wait. Have a great day. Happy reading. 🙂

Hi Elena, if my books promote such an emotional response in you then I have done my job well. I agree Lily is immature in the first book, but that is how I wrote her. I believe that her actions are consistent with a young girl who has been spoilt, pampered, and made the center of attention at all times. And who can blame her parents for doing that. They didn’t know if she would live to see adulthood. So unfortunately, Lily was the product of her environment. Had she not been an ill child, she would have turned out differently.
But I think that in book two, she grows up a lot and learns to fight for herself, instead of relying on Aidan to save her. And consistent with her growth arc, I believe she will reach full maturity in book three and be a worthy partner for Aidan.
Thanks so much for commenting. I really love getting feedback from readers. Have a wonderful day. 🙂

I have another trilogy out there, the Crossfire Trilogy which has also proven quite popular. I’ve promised readers a fourth book in that series, and will have to make good on my promise before I can start the third book in the Blackstone Trilogy.
So the only thing I can say is that it’s highly unlikely that the third book will come out in 2014. Possibly in the first half of 2015 would be more realistic.

Hi Kath. Yes, Karl’s story will be out near the end of this year. I’m busy working on it at the moment. The title is Somali Sunrise, and features Karl and Nancy as main characters. Stefan and Marcelle will be part of the story too. I’m so pleased that you’ve enjoyed the Crossfire Trilogy books. If you enjoy paranormal romance I have another free book out there called Lily’s Reprieve, which forms part of the Blackstone Trilogy. Happy reading, and I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

Everyone loves your books, Ms. Savage, I am also waiting. It’s almost depressing waiting on a book to be finished. I knew the blackstone trilogy wasn’t finished when I started it, but I couldn’t help myself.( I had just finished the first crossfire and was waiting for the 2nd to be gifted to me for my birthday. ) and plus ” Lily’s Reprieve” was free!!!
The next thing I know i can’t decided what I want more the unfinished one or the finished one. So I had my mom buy all of them including ” Hearts on Fire ” LOL 😘 now I just found out the crossfire trilogy isn’t even done. I’m so happy. I just assumed it was over. Maybe they will get pregnant again? Anyway I just wanted to tell you that Most of us are waiting on any installment you are working on not caring which trilogy comes first, but please don’t feel pressured. Take your time and do what you do best. Because in the end we like the story’s but mostly we just like the way you write them 💋💋💋💋💋

Hi Samantha, thanks for your lovely comment. I love your enthusiasm. It makes everything worthwhile for me. Just a small correction, the Crossfire Trilogy is complete. I was prepared to let Stefan and Marcelle live happily ever after, or even just happy for now. However, so many people asked for a sequel to Driftwood, which was a short story I wrote to show that it was rejection that had turned Karl into such a cynical man. Again was quite happy to let Karl and Nancy live unhappily ever after. Luckily, due to popular demand I decided to turn Driftwood into a series starter for the Driftwood Trilogy. So the book that I’m busy writing now is Somali Sunrise, the second book in the Driftwood Trilogy, but many readers will see it as just a continuation of the Crossfire Series, because Marcelle and Stefan will feature strongly in the Driftwood Trilogy. I anticipate releasing Somali Sunrise at the end of this year, and then the third Blackstone book at the end of 2015. I wish I could write faster, but I’m afraid that I have to follow my process to create the magic. 🙂
The good news is that I’m also busy revamping Driftwood to make it worthy of a series starter, and that will be out soon, and won’t be quite so short anymore. If you have already read it, you won’t have to purchase it again, because I will load it as an update, assuming that you’re using Amazon. If not, I can give you a voucher to download it from Smashwords free.
Thanks again for contacting me, you certainly put a smile on my face. 🙂

Hi Sharon, thanks for contacting me. I have great news and good news. The great news is that I’m busy writing the sequel to Driftwood. It’s called Somali Sunrise and will feature Karl and Nancy as main characters. Stefan and Marcelle will feature too.
The good news is that it will be available Christmas this year. There is more good news. I’m also busy rewriting parts of Driftwood and will soon bring out an update to Driftwood. Just like you, I’m quite intrigued with Karl and Nancy so I wanted to flesh out their relationship a little more. And there’s a surprise addition to Driftwood too. I’ll announce it here as soon as I’ve published the updated version.
Thanks again for commenting. I’m so glad that you’re enjoying my books.

I’m really anxious for the 3rd instalment of the Blackstone Trilogy. Must we wait so long? That’s a year and a half away. Am biting my fingernails to find out what happens and about the baby and if they finally get together. I’m and old woman and may not live long enough for a 12/15 release due to serious health problems.

Hi Karen. I’m sorry to hear you’re not well. I’m afraid I have to continue with my present project, Somali Sunrise. I have already postponed it twice in favor of writing the two Blackstone books. So I cannot break my promise to the readers of the Crossfire Trilogy and postpone it yet again. If you read some of the other comments you will see that I’m under a bit of pressure at the moment.
However, I’m prepared to make a concession to try to help you. Normally I take a break from writing from January to the end of March. I will not take that break next January, but will instead start immediately on the third Blackstone book, thereby moving its release schedule up by three months.
I hope this helps a bit, it’s the best I can do.
Wishing you well. 🙂

I am now onto Aidans Redemption and am looking forward to it, But , I have to admit, I don’t want to read this one quickly, knowing that it will be quite some time before you get to the 3rd book.

It is also the sequel to Crossfire: Driftwood so if you haven’t read Driftwood yet then perhaps give it a try and then you’re up to speed when Somali Sunrise comes out. With regards to the third Blackstone book, I’m hesitant to give an exact date. You probably read my blog post “Disappointed”. With ref to that, the good news is I had my knee operation on 18 Feb, but also need another operation to fix my shoulder which was injured in the same fall. I’m not sure how long my left arm will out of action after that, (Doc says six weeks minimum) which will severely reduce my typing speed, but I can assure you that I’ll do my best to get Blackstone 3 out by December hopefully, or January at the latest.

Hi Sage. No, I do not release my books to any libraries. Of the seven books I have written, two are free, one is priced at $1.99, two are priced at $2.99 and two are priced at $3.99. I think you will agree that these are hardly expensive prices. I am a full time writer, meaning that I rely completely on my book sales to support myself and my family. For this reason it doesn’t make sense to me to allow libraries to lend my books to hundreds, possibly thousands of people and I see no royalties from that.
My books are available on book subscription services such as Scribd and Oyster, where for a nominal amount per month (I think $8.99) you can read as many books as you like. That makes more sense to me because at least I get royalties when a book is read all the way through.
Thank you for contacting me. I hope you have a great day. 😀

Of course I’m thrilled that you’ve enjoyed my Crossfire Trilogy. But no story for Karl? He’s one of my favorite characters, and quite frankly I’m a bit in love with him too. He does get his own story in the Driftwood Trilogy. The first book, Crossfire: Driftwood features him as the main character and is a prequel to the Crossfire Trilogy. It takes place a few years before Stefan and Marcelle meet. The next book in the Driftwood Trilogy is called Crossfire: Somali Sunrise, and takes up the story about two years after Crossfire: Hearts on Fire ends. If you haven’t read Driftwood and Somali Sunrise yet, then you are in for a treat. Mmm, more chocolate. 😉

Hi Fiona, somebody asked me exactly the same question a few days ago on another blogpost. If it’s alright with you I’m going to copy part of my reply to answer your question.
“Lily’s Reprieve and Aidan’s Redemption are book 1 and 2 of the Blackstone Trilogy. It is a fantasy series and not part of the Crossfire Books.
Crossfire, Crossfire: Fire & Ice and Crossfire: Hearts on Fire are the three books in the Crossfire Trilogy.
The Crossfire Trilogy can stand alone, but I’ve added a spinoff series called the Driftwood Trilogy. The first book called Crossfire: Driftwood, takes place before Crossfire, and the second book Crossfire: Somali Sunrise takes place about two years after Crossfire: Hearts on Fire ends. The Driftwood Trilogy can be read after the Crossfire Trilogy or you can read Driftwood first, then the Crossfire Trilogy and then go on to Somali Sunrise. The final book in the Driftwood Trilogy is still outstanding and I’m hard at work writing it and will publish it in 2016.
Also the final book in the Blackstone Trilogy is still outstanding.”
I hope this helps to clear up the reading order for you.
Happy Reading. 😊
Kind Regards
Niki

Hi Jackie, thanks so much for contacting me. I’m thrilled that you’ve enjoyed my books so far. Please accept my apologies for not sticking to my 2015 publishing schedule.
2015, as you’ve probably seen from my blog posts and the other comments, was pretty much the worst year of my life. A bout of reactive arthritis resulting from a germ that got into my bloodstream, saw me hospitalized in January 2015. Two shoulder operations and a knee operation followed, throwing my life into disarray. I told my mom just the other day that I had more medical procedures and tests in 2015 than I’ve had in my entire life.
Unfortunately, my creativity suffered, leaving me unable to finish the third Blackstone book that I had planned to publish in December 2015.
The good news is that I’m back in the saddle this year. I’m still going to physio once a week but I’m feeling much better. To answer your question, I’m busy with the third Driftwood book at the moment, and anticipate publishing it in May 2016. Thereafter I’ll continue with the third Blackstone book, and publish it in December 2016.
I’m confident that I’ll be able to stick to this schedule. I’m writing approx 3000 to 4000 words a day, and loving every moment of it.
Thanks for your patience. I hope you have a lovely day/evening. 😊

I discovered your books over December after loosing my dad. Thank you for your good wishes, Jackie. I’m so sorry to hear your father passed away. I’m glad that my books could provide you with some distraction from your grief. I lost my older brother to a motorbike accident in 2012 and for me eventually it was only in writing that I could find comfort. That’s actually how the Blackstone trilogy came to be. It was a genre change for me to write fantasy and science fiction, but it was what my soul needed at that time.
All best wishes to you, and May 2016 isn’t too far away. 😉

So I’m not saying that I’ll never carry on with their story, but I need to complete my Blackstone Trilogy by December. After that I have a few more projects in mind, and other exciting characters that I hope you’ll enjoy reading about. Dear Niki,
First, my heart goes out to you and your family, it is the hardest thing to watch a child suffer because of the hatred and revengefulness of others. My prayers go out to you. Having said that, you should put the entire Crossfire/Driftwood series in chronological order together IN a bundle for sale. That way your reading public can enjoy and get a grasp on all the characters and their storylines! And it will keep us entertain until the next Blackstone series comes out! Hi Fiona. Yes, both the Driftwood and Crossfire Trilogy are complete. The chronological reading order is as follows
Crossfire: Driftwood
Crossfire
Crossfire : Fire and Ice

Crossfire : Somali Sunrise
Crossfire: Broken
I have recently brought out an omnibus edition called Crossfire Chronicles. It contains all the books listed above in the correct order.
I hope this helps. Have a wonderful day. 😀

I have read the three books of the Crossfire trilogy + Driftwood, and I have loved them all. I have recently discovered that you have written two more books at the crossroad between Crossfire and Driftwood, and there were instantly bought. I have started re-reading them all before starting with the new ones. I am only a couple of chapters into Somali Sunrise, but I am tremendously confused. At the beginning of this book, Marcelle is pregnant with the twins, and only about three years married to Stefan. If Karl’s son Daniel is 6, Karl and Nancy’s affair happened way before Marcelle was even in the picture, but she talks about having met Nancy. How come? Also Karl appears very bitter and says that Nancy left him. But it was him who left her after he recovered his memory. I must be missing something, but right now I am very confused about the chronology.
LikeLike
Hi Teresa. Thanks so much for contacting me. I suspect that perhaps the version of Driftwood that you read was the first version that I wrote. I changed a few things in Driftwood after I had decided to make it the first book in the Driftwood Trilogy. As Driftwood was originally quite a ‘short’ story, I decided to add events to it that would later become relevant in the second and third books of the Driftwood Trilogy. For instance, regarding the question of when Marcelle met Nancy. In the newer version of Driftwood, Karl and Nancy met Marcelle and Jean-Michel in Mozambique, and she and Nancy became good friends during that time. Also it gives a better tie in for how Jean-Michel came into contact with Omega eventually. I made this change because I felt it would be nice to show readers the relationship that Marcelle and JM had, instead of always just talking about him after he had already died. So Driftwood would be worth a reread. The order of reading is as follows:
Driftwood
Crossfire
Fire and Ice
Hearts on Fire
Somali Sunrise
Broken
If you have the old version of Driftwood there are two ways to solve the problem. I have a box set of the combined trilogies available on Amazon and Smashwords. You don’t have to buy this box set, but if you download a sample, you will find Driftwood is there in its entirety and is thus free. If you would prefer to have Driftwood on its own, I can organize a voucher for you to download it free from Smashwords.
Please let me know what would suit you as I feel it would be beneficial for you to read the newer version of Driftwood. You will also see that I changed the ending which will explain to you why Karl is so bitter and why it is actually Nancy who placed him in front of an impossible choice.
I hope you enjoy this newer version of Driftwood and I look forward to hearing from you.
Happy Reading. 😀

Ah! This makes so much sense. Many thanks for your response and for pointing me towards the possible explanation. In preparation for Somali Sunrise I have re-read the whole trilogy + the Driftwood version that I had in my Kindle, which has 137 pages in Kindle UK, but those things that you mention are not there, so I will now look for the new version. I loved your books, and second time round, I even left a much better fleshed review in Goodreads. I am a clinical psychologist and I thought that your portrayal of the multifaceted psychological issues in all the books, but most significantly the third one, were astonishingly accurate and brilliantly portrayed. It kept me glued to my kindle the second time I read it all as much as the first. I really hope that as I keep reading, Karl manages to find happiness as he very much deserves it. You have a fan for life.
And how much I would love it if this trilogy catches Hollywood’s attention, as I would gladly queu to see these characters in the big screen!

Thank you for your kind words and your review, Teresa. And considering your professional background of psychology, your compliments are high praise indeed. And yes, it would be a dream come true if the Crossfire books were made into a movie, but
I think I would need to sell a million books before Hollywood casts an eye in my direction. 😉
With reference to the new version of Driftwood, I think you will find that even if you redownload it again off Amazon UK they will keep giving you the version you originally bought. It was never my intention that readers should pay twice for the same book, so a while ago I made Driftwood free for a few months. It’s not free at the moment but if you go to this link viewbook.at/crossfirechronicles it will take you to the box set that I published a little while ago. Because it is such a large file, just downloading a sample (which is free) will take you through Driftwood and even part of Crossfire. I think it will be the best way to get the updated, meatier version of Driftwood.
I agree that Karl very much deserves to find happiness. He is actually my favorite character in the series but don’t tell Stefan that. 😉
Wishing you a great Friday. 😀

I have just bought the omnibus version and I am reading the updated version of Drifwood right now. I have wondered if perhaps you might have updated some little aspects of the first Crossfire book, in the sense that if Marcelle and Karl had already met, this may now be briefly explained, when they meet again, this time through Stefan.
Congratulations on a wonderful series. Shame I don’t know any Hollywood pushers to send them your way, ha ha.

There you go, enjoy. Yes, you’re right, I did make adjustments in Crossfire also to accommodate the changes in Driftwood to show that Karl and Marcelle had already met, so the omnibus will cover all of that. Happy reading. 🙂

Hi Nikki…I’m sure you’ve been asked this over and over but I just have to know…any word when the 3rd installment of the Blackstone trilogy will be out.?? Read the 4 chpts u wrote on ur site & they’re great. I’m soooooo excited to read the rest. Read the crossfire 6 book bundle too. Also completely loved 😁. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the cheating of Karl and Marcelle behind Nancy’s back over & over. Then a child is involved and everyone in the circle knows except Nancy. Like she’s the last one to know the joke. And it seems the only person who feels for Nancy & what’s being done behind her back is Karl’s twin brother & believes she shld know the truth. I don’t know. Seems Marcelle was allowing herself to become slutty bc of her trauma & damn anyone else it’ll hurt & Karl is using his “promise” to make sure Marcelle is ok as an excuse to sleep with her and all is good w a clear conscience even though poor Nancy is clueless even though she was jealous of their relationship which is a pretty sleezeball thing to do. I wish Nancy knew. It wld make the book much longer and go off on its own tangent (which wld prob mean another book or novelette) on their struggles, how Nancy wld accept the revelation of the cheating, if she leaves him and how Karl tries to win her back & of course there has to be a showdown between Nancy & Marcelle. And in this little make believe book I’ve just created Nancy wld be the one on top & Marcelle wld look like the tramp in the wrong since it was always Nancy in the past to be blamed for most incidents; even Stefan’s injury. But cooome on!! Who wldnt come running if they heard their son screaming even if a certain someone may have told her to stay hidden, and Karl shld have realized that as well & not place blame on Nancy for stefans horrible accident. (I’m guessing by now u can tell I really dont like cheating) But that’s just me & I’m ranting & I’ll stop now. Please don’t take this as a bad review or anything. I guess cheating just hits me the wrong way but I did love the series & once again can’t wait til the 3rd Blackstone book is released. I check Amazon like once a week atleast 😁

Hi Stacey. Wow, what a lovely long comment. I can see you really got emotionally involved in the Crossfire books and I’ll take that as a huge compliment because it means I did my job well. That being said, it is obvious to me that infidelity is a trigger for you. I myself have been cheated on, and I remember clearly, even though it was more than twenty-five years ago, that I was filled with such revulsion that I ran to the bathroom and was physically sick. I consider infidelity as the worst betrayal possible in a relationship. That’s probably why I am single today, because I’ve never allowed any man to get close enough to me to hurt me like that ever again. So I understand your viewpoint, and your feelings about it, but I need to point out a few things just to clarify what happened in the book.
When Karl and Marcelle got together for the first time when he visited her in Germany, he was a free man. He and Nancy had broken up and he had no intention of getting back together with her ever again. As far as he was concerned, the problems that had led to him breaking up with Nancy in Mozambique still remained, and would always remain.
As for Marcelle, Stefan had left her, saying in his note, “Forget about me. I will not return.” And after nine months of no word, one could almost consider that note a divorce.
In the end, Marcelle was just human, and when things between her and Karl turned carnal, I feel it was very believable that they would get together. And Karl gives in to Marcelle because his promise to Stefan, and his guilt towards Marcelle for (in his mind) destroying her happiness, holds him captive. He is prepared to do anything, (as he said to Kris later), to make Marcelle happy, even take Stefan’s place if neccessary.
When I thought about it I realized that perhaps I had failed to demonstrate how deep the relationship between Karl and Stefan was. And a phrase came into my head that there is no greater love than someone who is prepared to give his life for another. In a way that was what Karl was prepared to do. His own wants and needs and happiness no longer mattered or even featured in his future. He was giving his life for Stefan. And that was what Kris was so angry about. The fact that Karl was betraying himself, and deceiving himself, believing that he could live a life of denial and still find a semblance of happiness. Remember that Kris knew how Karl was feeling inside, even though Karl refused to admit it, and was using blasé and crass comments to try and throw Kris off the track.
To return to Karl’s relationship with Nancy, the first time that Nancy managed to reach Karl’s heart again was many months into his relationship with Marcelle, when Nancy sent him that email. His love for her welled up again, but he didn’t feel free to act on it. Only when he discovered that Nancy was secretly pregnant, did the conflict in him reach such a level that it became obvious to Marcelle that he was in pain. And when he confessed to her, she set him free immediately. Such was her love (not romantic love) for Karl that she wanted him to be happy, even if it meant that she was alone again. So their relationship wasn’t cheating. Both of them were free. The only cheating that occurred in the entire book was that one night that had resulted in the conception of a child. Karl was married at that time, so that was cheating. Once.
As for Marcelle’s slutty behavior (in your opinion) I feel that the way I compressed the timeline might have confused things a little bit. Let me please clarify Marcelle’s sexual history. She was a virgin when she met Jean-Michel, and she was married to him for three years. Then she was alone for two years before she met Stefan. They got married eventually and were married for several years before Stefan left her. Nine months later Marcelle and Karl had a relationship that lasted six months, and would have lasted longer had Marcelle not set Karl free. Then Marcelle was alone for several years before she and Anthony (who had known her since she was seventeen) got together. Their relationship didn’t even last two months before he committed suicide. So to my reckoning, that’s four guys in Marcelle’s entire life, two of which had been her husband. That does not make her a slut, nor could that be considered slutty behavior, in my opinion. Her only sin in the book was getting together with Karl that night after Anthony’s death. But considering that they were ex-lovers, Karl should never have climbed into bed with her, because it was far too easy to console each other like they had done before.
As for telling Nancy about that one night, and the child (Lucy) who had resulted from it, all I can say is why? What would be the point of ripping her world apart? Because if she knew, the whole island would know, and poor Lucy would grow up with a terrible stigma, forever a reminder of Karl and Marcelle’s betrayal of their respective partners. Both Karl and Stefan’s authority would have been eroded, making it difficult to run an army. And if Nancy decided to end her marriage to Karl and left the island with her children, they would all be at risk, leaving Karl vulnerable if his enemies decided to hurt his family.
So the purpose behind not telling Nancy was for good reason, and there was no malicious intent, or secret amusement, behind it. In fact, it was Stefan, the man who had been the most wronged by having to accept and raise a child that wasn’t his, who had issued the order that nobody would be told about Lucy’s true parentage. So only Stefan, Karl, Kris and Marcelle knew the truth. That’s not everybody. Not even Kris’ wife, Marie, knew. I think that was a very wise decision on Stefan’s part, because there was no point in destroying Karl’s marriage.
I hope that these discussion points helps to clear up some of your feelings, Stacey. I very much enjoyed going back over Crossfire: Broken and rereading some sections to remind myself of what had happened and thinking about my reasons for adding certain scenes to the book.
As for the third book of the Blackstone Trilogy, it shouldn’t be too much longer before it will be available, possibly the end of September.
I hope you have a wonderful day, and thanks again for such a lovely discussion.

Hi, any release date yet for the Blackstone Trilogy Book 3? Can’t wait to read it x

Hi Lynsey, I can’t give you a definite date at this point other than to say it will be soon. At my reckoning I’m about ten to fifteen thousand words away from completion. If all goes well I’m estimating it should be around the end of September. Please accept my apologies for the delay, sometimes life just happens and everything, including long awaited sequels, just goes right out the window.
I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

Hi Fiona. I have another trilogy called the Blackstone Trilogy. The book three that’s being referred to in the previous comment is the last book in that set. It’s different from Crossfire because it’s urban fantasy and science fiction and time travel all mixed together. But at its heart it’s still a love story so you might enjoy it anyway. There is no risk because the first book, Lily’s Reprieve is free. The second book is Aidan’s Redemption and the third book Resurrection will be available soon.
I hope you’ll give the first book a try. 🙂🌸

Hi Brenda. So nice to hear from you again. Thanks for so many lovely compliments, it makes me want to start writing a new book right away. 😉
But seriously, I do have a new story in mind and my imagination is already busy with my two main characters. They don’t even have names yet but they’ve already had their first argument in my imagination. Yep, conflict, just the way I like it. I’ll start writing again after Christmas and see where this story takes me.
Thanks for commenting and I wish you a lovely day. 😀

Hi Nikki, I have just finished reading Merlin in Love, what a fantastic book, just like all the others, I can’t wait for book to in the Merlin Trilogy I last emailed you in 2017 congratulating on the last book in the Blackstone Trilogy, the problem I have is that I love your books so much I read them in just days and then have to wait for your next one which seem to take ages but, as they say patients is a virtue and all your books are worth waiting for. To cap it all i live near Yeovil Hospital, love shopping in Glastonbury and know Cheddar Gorge. Keep producing your fantastic work to keep us fans happy. Kind Regards. Brenda Gregory

Hi Brenda, it’s so wonderful to hear from you again. I’m thrilled that you’ve enjoyed Merlin in Love, and what makes it even more special to me is that you’re from the same area that the book is set in. It must be wonderful to live in a region that is so rich with history and legends.
Lol, yes you’re right, I do tend to take a while to bring out a new book. I didn’t write at all in 2018 and I think that taking a rest helped to reboot my creative drive. The result was that I wrote Merlin in Love in the first four months of 2019. I’ve never written that fast before so no one was more surprised than I was. 😮 I guess that reimagining the Merlin legend really got me going. I’ve already started the second Merlin book and I’m confident that I’ll have it done before Christmas. As always I’ll announce it here first.
Thank you so much for commenting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. 🙂

I just love it when I don’t check your blog for a few months and then when I do I find out you have a new book out! I started watching Merlin on Netflix but I’m glad for the spoiler on the final episode as I hate when shows do that, it just ruins the show. By the way I loved the last post about your cats 😂 I couldn’t sleep last night as my 5kg cat sat right on my bladder while my other cat seemed to take up two thirds at the foot of the bed so I couldn’t stretch my legs out. Never mind that there are 2 cat beds in the room, or the massive sofa and cat tree in the living room lol. I have today of work so I can’t wait to binge read Merlin!

Hi Emma. It’s so nice to hear from you again. Yes, our cats rule us and I have a nine kilogram cat called Gizmo who likes to sleep on my belly every night, even though he has at least six other options. And sometimes two of the other cats join him too. During winter I don’t mind so much but in summer I overheat with all this cuddly love on top of me. And it doesn’t help to chase them off because as soon as I fall asleep, they start to creep closer and when I wake they’re all on top of me again. lol. Love the little darlings anyway.
Yes, I wrote Merlin in Love a few months ago and it was the fastest I’ve ever written a book. Four months flat. Remember I was planning to publish it only by December but when it was finished I decided I might as well send it out into the world. I hope you enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed writing it and anticipate that the storyline might stretch over five books or more so that should keep me busy for a few years. Lol.
Thanks so much for commenting and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Nikki it’s been a while since I emailed you, I cannot seem to get anywhere when searching for Merlin in love book two, I know from your email that you were hoping to finish it by Christmas 2019. Please can you let me know if it has been finished. I am a little confused too that there is a Blackstone book 4 but I thought it was a trilogy? I have read all the other books you have written, I hope you are well as it’s a long time since your last mail.

Hi Brenda, wow, yes, you’re right, it has been a while. It’s lovely to hear from you again. I am well, thank you, and have had no more health scares. Sorry about the confusion about Blackstone Book 4. I originally wanted to do a standalone series for Merlin in Love, but eventually decided to add it to the Blackstone books, renaming the Blackstone Trilogy to the Blackstone Chronicles. The reason for this was because Aidan and Lily jumped into the book, and I realized that their story wasn’t finished yet.
When I promised that the second Merlin book would be done by Christmas 2019 I genuinely believed that I could do it. However, life had other plans for me. Early in 2019, my mother and father were both diagnosed with dementia. In my mother’s case it was Alzheimer’s disease causing the dementia. My father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease with Lewy bodies and dementia.
Since they were living with me and I worked from home, I automatically became their caregiver. It impacted greatly on my writing as I suddenly had two adults who became anxious whenever I was out of sight. It seemed that my carefree days of writing and editing all day were over, but I believed that all was not lost, and that I could still work at night. I wrote Merlin in Love at night, working from 10pm to 3am for several months.
However, as my parents’ condition deteriorated, they became hyperactive and often manic, particularly at night, so I decided to shelve my writing activities for a month or two until things settled down a bit. But of course, things didn’t get better. My Christmas 2019 self-imposed deadline came and went while I, (and my brother, who had moved in to help) dealt with the deteriorating mental condition of our parents. They hallucinated constantly, and believed each others’ hallucinations, and in short, drove each other crazy, but it was impossible to separate them.
Then of course in 2020 COVID came, and like many other countries, South Africa also went into lockdown. That meant that our housekeeper could no longer come to work, and couldn’t do so for around five months, so in addition to being the nurse and cook, I had to take on those duties too. My brother was away many nights, working night-shift to keep the family finances going. By now, writing was now just a distant memory, and months went by without me even switching on my laptop.
I kept hoping things would improve, so that I could get my life back, but no.
In 2021 my mother, at the age of 86, got lung cancer, and though the tumor could be surgically excised, she was in ICU for twenty days. That brought its own problems because in addition to her existing dementia, she developed post operative dementia, which made things even worse. It was nearly six months before she returned to ‘normal’. During that time my dad also had a stay in hospital from a head injury sustained in a fall. His balance was increasingly becoming a problem as Parkinson’s disease ravaged his body, and that was the first of several falls, resulting in more hospital stays.
By now my brother was no longer working night shift, and was home permanently, so my mom became my patient, while my brother took care of my dad. We finally managed to put them in separate rooms because my dad needed a specialized hospital bed to prevent bedsores. He had become an invalid and could no longer walk. The tragedy is that after 57 years of marriage they no longer recognized each other, so it was possible to separate them.
And this is how life is now. Both my parents are in nappies. My father hallucinates every waking minute and babbles nonstop. The only time he is quiet is when he’s sleeping. He turned 91 recently but didn’t even understand that it was his birthday. The neurologist has said there is no more that can be done for him as none of the meds are effective anymore because the disease has progressed too far. But though his mind is gone, his body is still going strong. He can keep going for many more years like this.
My mom is still mobile, using a walker, and is becoming increasingly manic, a stage that my dad went through just a year ago. She is paranoid and constantly believes that children are missing, or that she’s in the wrong house, or like last night she believed she was dead, and that she was a corpse, and that I must call the cops so that they can come find her. And no amount of reasoning can convince her of anything else, and this went on until two this morning when I finally gave her a tranquilizer prescribed by the doctor. And I can’t use the tranquilizer too often, because then she develops tolerance, and it becomes ineffective. So most of the time I just have to deal with the dementia. And its hard to comfort her because she doesn’t know who I am anymore. She doesn’t recognize my brother either. And my father doesn’t know us anymore either.
It’s hard to believe that three years have gone by like this, a nightmare that doesn’t seem to end. I’ve had to squash any hope of being able to resume writing, and banish my characters from my imagination. If I didn’t do that, the frustration of not being able to write would’ve left me in a permanent state of depression, and I can’t take care of anyone while in that state. So it was self-preservation, I guess. My writer’s soul needs to soar with the eagles, but instead I’m trapped on the ground, mired in shit and misery. I find the best way to get by is just to keep my eyes on the ground and plod away. My world has shrunk so much. No more social life, no more friends. Just surrounded by craziness all day long, like working in an asylum. Nothing surprises me anymore.
So Brenda, the short answer is I don’t know when I can complete the next Merlin book. I can’t plan anything. I keep hoping that we can hire a caregiver, so that I can get at least a little time to write again, but financially it’s just not possible, and things are just getting worse. There is no hope.
I have wondered whether I should unpublish Merlin in Love, rather than to leave a book out there that ends on a cliffhanger, with no certainty of when the next book will follow. Thank you so much for your interest; sorry for such a long answer, which is probably more suited to be a blog post. I’ve often wondered if I should write a blog post to explain my situation, but though I composed it many times in my mind, I never got round to actually doing the blog. It felt awkward just announcing it out of the blue, but since you’ve contacted me, I feel I owe you an explanation. Apologies too, to all my readers, and hoping that I will be able to resume my writing career eventually.
Kind regards

Hi Niki, I am so truly sorry that you’re going through this. I imagine your parents would have been horrified if they knew the situation that you’re now in. Thank you so much, Emma. Yes, watching my parents descend into madness has been painful. My dad was such an intelligent man, and before retirement had a high position in the computer industry. He could program in five computer languages. My mother was a Theatre Sister, and was in charge of the Ear, Nose and Throat Theatre for the last decade of her career. But none of that is left now, I’m afraid.
My dad sometimes relives old memories in hallucinations, and I’ve watched him as he talks very clearly to other people in a meeting. He even makes the motions of drawing on a board or drinking tea. Sometimes I can tell he is programming. He would say: “ Run it again,” over an over while staring intently at something in front of him, presumably an imagined computer screen. But yet when he’s not hallucinating, he battles to put a sentence together. It’s so weird. Yes, my parents would be horrified if they knew what they have become. But in that way the disease has been kind. They are unaware of what has happened, and take pleasure in small things, like a nice meal or a sweet treat.
I feel that I owe it to them to be there for them. At the age of twenty one I suffered two base of skull 💀 fractures in a bicycle race. My parents were there for me all the way in the years it took me to return to normality. So I owe them plenty.
Yes, my kitties are all still there for me and I draw a lot of comfort from them. Nothing like a purring cat (or four) on my bed at night. They’re all gorgeous and I love them to bits. Of course I’ve rescued a few more in the past few years, including a gorgeous Snowshoe Siamese who I’ve named Tarzan. That’s because he fell nearly five meters out of a tree and survived. He wasn’t my cat then but his eyes were as big as saucers as he stood there on the ground after landing perfectly on his feet. He had been up that tree for three days. I heard him scream as I drove past so of course I had to stop. Long story but now he sleeps on my chest every night. And he has the sweetest delicate miaaw. So cute.
Lol. I guess you can tell I’m starved for conversation. 😉
Thank you again for your support, Emma. I will post updates if anything changes and definitely if I’m able to resume writing.
Kind regards XX

Thank you sooooooo much for getting back to me Nikki, I appreciate the time you must have spent writing to me. I am so sorry about your parents. Having been a nurse I worked with many people with Dementia , Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and even one lady had Lewy bodies so I can feel great empathy with you, it must be so hard and then you get correspondence from your fans wanting to hurry you up to write more, we can wait, your wonderful books are worth waiting for now I know the reason. Please try and make sure you get the support and help for yourself to remain well, I have seen so many cases where the carer needs more help than the patient just to cope, we have respite care in the UK where the patient/s can be looked after just for a couple of weeks to give you and you brother a break.
Please try and keep well and if I may I’d like to drop you a short email occasionally just to show you you are being thought of and give you support.
Very good wishes to you Brenda Gregory

Thank you so much for understanding, Brenda, particularly since you’ve had experience with dementia patients, so you know what it’s like. We don’t have a respite care here in South Africa. We do have Hospice but I don’t know if they would take in dementia patients. We haven’t had a break in years.
A few months ago things were so bad my brother and I were getting barely three hours sleep a night, for days on end. We were like zombies. But things have improved now since my parents are in separate rooms.
We don’t really have a support structure. It’s just the two of us. My sister lives far from us. She drops in when she can but never stays longer than an hour or two. I think she finds it hard to deal with the situation.
Yes, you are welcome to drop me an email anytime. My email is niki@nikisavage.com
